So light, so fresh: what is the special character of a summer fragrance?
Pleasant warm summer days that last longer than usual and balmy starry nights: in summer we feel a unique peace of mind. This lightness is reflected by special summer fragrances. Summer, sunshine and warmth – at this time of the year no one wants to wear a heavy opulent perfume. Life should be easy and relaxed and this feeling should be reflected by the gentle perfume that we spray on our skin.
But what are the special characteristics of a summer perfume ? It consists of light, fugacious, fresh and stimulating ingredients which often come from the following scent families (olfactory groups):

Neroli (also Neroli oil) is a distillate extracted from the blossoms of the bitter orange „citrus aurantium“, less frequently extracted from oranges „citrus sinensis”. It is an essential oil

Citrus:
Citrus fragrances consist mostly of bergamot or neroli oil (extracted from the blossoms of the bitter orange „citrus aurantium“, less frequently extracted from oranges „citrus sinensis“) or sometimes also from „petitgrain“ (obtained from leaves, green twigs and unripe green fruits of the bitter orange plant).
Essential oils from lemon, orange and mandarin peel give the perfumes with citrus scent a fresh and stimulating character.

Fruity:
This scent family is represented by red berries, apple, peach, pear, melon and so forth. The aroma of fruit has a stimulating effect on our body and soul.
Fruity scents have flooded the market since the mid 90´s by reason of a significant rejuvenation of buyers.
Perfumes of this group are light, fresh and airy, with sweet and exotic nuances of fruits, which are available only in summer.

Green:
Predominant here are the scents of nature: meadows, forests, herbs, fresh mowed lawns and leaves. Also part of this group are green apples and lilies of the valley.
In the headnote they appear light and breezy and give the perfume a cool freshness. Green nuances that smell like green vegetation such as grass, leaves, stalks and twigs give these fragrances an even more natural feel of freshness and drive, because in summer we go through life more easily and are much more cheery, happy and relaxed compared to winter.

Aquatic/ aromatic:
Fragrances with a fresh, maritime and aquatic character. These perfumes prolong the feeling of being freshly showered and they have aromatic ingredients.
These ingredients originate often from Mediterranean herbs such as lavender, thyme, rosemary or mugwort, which give the summer perfumes an energetic, aquatic and fresh character.

Grass and leaves provide a slightly sour freshness

Mild floral:
Mild floral nuances, gentle, subtle and fresh – a summer perfume should be mild and delicately perfumed. Under no circumstances should it be obtrusively fragranced - heavy floral perfumes are more suitable for winter time!
Green nuances like grass and leaves provide a slightly sour freshness within a floral fragrance. That gives us an impression of being surrounded by freshly picked flowers.

Ideally, a smart combination of the single scents adds up to a new harmonic creation!
Summer fragrances are mild and delicate perfumes!
They give us a feeling of freshly washed clothes in the cupboard and leave a gentle and fresh aura on our skin. Often they also have powdery nuances that scent slightly sweet and dry and remind us of baby-powder or facial powder. Moreover, the impression to sit on a lawn in summer and to be surrounded by freshly picked flowers enhances our well-being.
